About the artist

Diane was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and is a graduate of the acclaimed Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She has worked as a professional artist and photographer for more than 30 years, mostly as a photojournalist.

“After leaving the newspaper industry, I wanted to focus my work towards contemporary art, but selling photography had lost value in the digital age. So I began painting oil on canvas for awhile. But my true love is being behind the camera, so I decided to move back to the artistic side of photography. I had a long discussion one day with Ali Cavanaugh, whose art receives national attention, and she helped me to start thinking ‘outside the box’ of traditional photography that is sold inside a frame.”

Diane has taken her experience in traditional media such as oils and photography, and combined it with techniques she developed more than a dozen years ago while working as an artist in eastern Virginia. More than a year ago, Diane began to incorporate these techniques into her three-dimensional mixed-media work – with striking results.

In addition to her work as an artist, Diane owns and operates the Center for the Arts in Ste. Genevieve. She lives in Ste Genevieve with her husband and two children.
